COCKNEY GREEN

May Be its Because I'm a Londoner!
We were proud to transform the railway arches at Millwall FC into a vibrant celebration of London’s past and present. As Londoners and proud Cockneys, we were honoured to work with British Rail on this project, blending the city’s heritage with the modern London skyline. Our aim was to create a design that felt playful and full of heart—reminiscent of playing on the cobbles as children. It was important to include the famous Pearly Kings and Queens, who still raise money for charity and live by the old Cockney values of family, community, and generosity. Among the many nods to local culture, we also featured the beloved Cockney anthem "Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner", a song sung by generations across the capital.
From this mural, we were inspired to create a series of portraits, which were exhibited in a local gallery and are now on display at several locations across London, continuing the celebration of London’s people and heritage.
The grand reveal was a true community celebration, attended by Pearly Kings and Queens from all over London. Manze’s Pie & Mash, Tower Bridge, brought a taste of tradition by generously donating 50 portions of their classic pie, mash, jellied eels and liquor for everyone to enjoy.
This community project was a collaboration with British Rail and Transport for London, with all the paint kindly donated by the legendary Billy, owner of V.I.P. Graffiti. The mural even caught the attention of local journalist Michael Holland, who featured it in the Southwark News, securing its place as a proud part of the area’s cultural story.
Together, we created not just a mural, but a joyful and nostalgic snapshot of London life—honouring the city’s roots, celebrating its people, and embracing its ever-changing spirit.
