Hi Everyone,
This past month I’ve been immersed in finishing my personal artwork, and it’s finally ready to share! I’d love for you to pop into Café Felice on Albion Street, Rotherhithe, grab a coffee, and wander through my creations. From swirling skies and goddess energy to bold street-art vibes, there’s something for every imagination to get lost in. Come see, feel, and be inspired — I can’t wait to share this world with you!
With colour and energy,
Warmest regards
Kathryn McGuinness
The Journey Behind the Art
My journey as an artist began with a fascination for the immediacy and freedom of street art. I wanted to capture the pulse of the city—the marks, colours, and movement that speak to urban life. But I also felt a strong pull toward stories and symbols that connect us to something larger than ourselves. This led me to explore my Irish heritage and the myths that have shaped my understanding of nature, rebellion, and feminine strength.
Combining these influences, I developed a visual language that fuses the rawness of urban mark-making with spiritual storytelling. My work is not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a space where viewers can feel the energy of transformation and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
Themes That Shape My Work
Several key themes run through my art, each reflecting a part of my identity and creative vision:
Feminine Power
I explore the strength and complexity of feminine energy, drawing on mythic figures and natural elements like the moon and sea. This power is both nurturing and fierce, a force of change and resilience.
Nature and Elemental Forces
Storms, sea, sky, and moonlight appear frequently in my work. These elements symbolize constant movement and transformation, mirroring human emotions and experiences.
Rebellion and Ancestry
Rooted in my Irish ancestry, my art channels a spirit of rebellion and resistance. This is expressed through bold colours and dynamic forms that challenge the viewer to look beyond the surface.
Inviting Viewers Into a Shared Experience
Ultimately, my art is an invitation. It asks viewers to look beyond the surface and enter a space where imagination, emotion, and spirit meet. Whether through a mural on a city wall or a workshop experience, I want people to feel connected—to themselves, to their heritage, and to the world around them.
This connection is especially important in today’s fast-changing urban environments. Art that fuses urban spirit with myth offers a way to slow down, reflect, and find meaning amid the noise.
If you are an artist looking to deepen your creative practice, consider how your own heritage, emotions, and environment can inform your work. Experiment with combining different styles and stories to create something uniquely yours. And remember, art can be a powerful tool for wellbeing and community connection.
